thoughts on blogging.

when i started this blog i never would have imagined i would gain the friendships that i have. i think it's incredible that i've met AND befriended a wolverine fan...and that's saying a lot.

i've met amazing girls in california, one sweet girl  that i'm not sure what we've done without each other our whole lives. i've met fellow bloggers here in florida (a meet up soon?), and even some across the big huge ocean.

and i'm so thankful for those kinds of friendships.

but there's still a part of this blogging community that i don't get.

i like to call it the "facebook feeling".
let's be honest here...facebook sucks. unless the only friends you have are your inner circle and family, it's inevitable that when you log on at some point in the month you're going to get that gross feeling in your belly because some one is doing something you want to do. maybe it's getting married, for me, right now it's being pregnant because i have baby fever. maybe it's moving cross country just because they can. maybe it's just getting engaged.

all these big life things pop up on other peoples facebook and you're wondering where's your moment.

i think the equivalent when it comes to blogging is a couple things:
1. seeing pages with 300+ followers.
2. seeing photos of bloggers that are supposed to be "everyday" photos and they look prom ready.
3. trying to make the look and feel of your blog "cooler" so more people will read it.

but here's the thing...

i'm wondering if some people put so much time and effort into blogging and miss what it's really about.

if we're so focused on what the blog actually looks like, then when do we have time to insert a little bit of us into it?

i'm just wondering because lately i've been reading about girls going through these phases where they need to find the exact blog to fit them, they're on the hunt for this distinctiveness.

but why?

sure...no one likes an ugly blog.
but even the ugly blogs are written by beautiful people.

i guess what i'm trying to say is if you've got the feeling like your blog isn't good enough, i'm here to tell you that it is.
whether you've got 5 or 500 followers, your blog is good enough.

and don't ever let anyone try and tell you it's not good enough.

because we're humans, we have a terrible tendency of getting jealous of things we don't have, or can't have. i get the feeling all the time. but i think it's how we over come that feeling, and it could speak volumes of who we are as children of God.

each one of us was created perfectly in His eyes.

so make your blog perfect in your eyes!

i wish i had some great advice for doing this whole blogging thing. i don't really. go talk to the michigan fan for layout stuff, she's pretty good (wink).

here's my one piece of advice: stay true to who you are. no matter what.

meg

Great post! I understand suffering from baby fever :-/ Doesn't it seem like EVERYONE is having a baby right now? Unfortunately my husband and I agreed to wait 3 years ..I guess I shouldn't say unfortunately! This time will allow us to experience lots of pre-children things and we wont get this time back! God's timing is perfect and I need to train my brain to have nothing but happy feelings when I see these things come up. I've definitely had blog envy. I am pretty crafty but have NO idea about design..at all. Anyways, all that to say I hear ya! haha

This is SO great!! And so very true. So many bloggers get caught up on making everything "perfect" and trying to get a million followers, but as long as you keep true to yourself then that's what matters!

AYYYYYYYYMEN.

& not because you complimented me twice. ;]

but seriously. i've been wrestling with this recently and although i'm making some changes to my blog, i'm doing my best to keep it mind that if it isn't me being real, me being messy and honest and true to life as i am, it isn't going to do anyone any good. God uses hearts, not shiny plastic exteriors.

"even the ugly blogs are written by beautiful people." yes. truth. we forget that. we forget this community is about people, that we are people, that we're commenting on posts written by people, that at the heart and soul of everything to do with blogging is PEOPLE. & people, all people, are beautiful.

you do have great advice. in fact, you gave the best blogging advice: stay true to who you are. because that's all we really can do successfully, isn't it?

i love this, Meg. i love YOU! {buckeye loyalty notwithstanding}

Yes, yes, YES! I was just having these thoughts today. I feel like I'm always comparing myself to other people and wishing I was like them. But, God made me this way for a reason. He has my life on this schedule for a reason. It's not about trying to present a fake self to get more followers, it's about staying true to who we are. It's not about living a picture perfect life (or making it look that way on our blog). I LOVE THIS (and you! You are an amazing inspiration to me!).

What a great post! I love that you talk about the REAL importance of blogging! It can be easy to get caught up in stats or the "cool crowd" BUT what I've found here in blogland is that by staying true to who I really am i've met these crazy amazing people who actually like the REAL me and it's awesome that I don't feel like i have to be someone i'm not. Thats a wonderful feeling. Happy I found you via Sweetness Itself! :)

Thanks for writing this! I've been thinking a lot about this lately, as I've struggled with thoughts on just quitting blogging because I'm so fed up with the blog world out there... I did continue blogging. I love fixing up the looks of my blog, but only to please myself because I like a clean uncluttered look.
I definitely can't stand those perfect blogs about the perfect lives... they simply are uninteresting. Yay for writing real and honest blogs!
