day 11 {a standard}

Ephesians 4: 13
This will continue until we all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.

coming to know jesus isn’t like a light bulb going off. it takes time. which is why it’s called a relationship, and not just a religion. it means that we have to come to the point where we understand Jesus, and not just get to a point where we think we know Him.
most of you reading this are in college, or have been in college, or are going in college, or have been at some point in some kind of schooling. think back on the first day of school. remember how the teacher always talks about a ‘standard’ for you to be at? you know, how we’re all expected to be at a certain level of excellence, depending on what grade we’re in. and then there’s the standard when you get into english classes on where you’re papers should be.
there always seems to be a bar that’s set, that we’re expected to go above and beyond.
God is the same way.
our faith shouldn’t be modeled after the person sitting next to us. it should be an on going relationship with Him that only grows deeper and deeper. a relationship where we get to know the Other person more and more.
I think a lot of times we get confused about the term ‘mature in the Lord’, mostly because according to society one is mature when their an adult. {ehhh, wrong} being mature in the Lord doesn’t have to come with age, it has to come with knowledge. it has to come with the time and effort we put into our relationship with God. it has to come with taking the time to read our bible everyday, pray to God (for more than just asking for things) and taking serious what it means to be a follower of Christ.
and that’s when we can almost start to measure up to His standard.
because let me tell you friends…it’s a really high standard. and it’s one that I’m ok with say: I’m not there yet, but you better believe I’m on my way there.
challenge: think about the standard that God holds for your life. just you and no one else. ask Him to make that standard clear if you can’t figure it out. and then look at how you’re measuring up to Christ.
father we know that we are no where near Your standards, but God I pray that You have the patience we need to get there. forgive us God when we fumble, because we do that a lot. there are no standards in this world that matter besides Yours God, so forgive us when we get caught up in the worlds high standards and not Yours. thank You for all Your blessings God.
happy wednesday! week is almost done! please be in prayer for my little churches youth group! tonight, tomorrow, and friday night we’re having a huge out reach for teens! pray for His guidance and presence in these young peoples lives!
